{"id":2216,"date":"2014-11-18T21:33:03","date_gmt":"2014-11-18T21:33:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/crispelomundo.com.br\/gruta-de-santo-antonio\/"},"modified":"2014-11-18T21:33:03","modified_gmt":"2014-11-18T21:33:03","slug":"gruta-de-santo-antonio","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/crispelomundo.com.br\/en\/saint-antonios-cave\/","title":{"rendered":"Gastronomy - Gruta de Santo Ant\u00f4nio."},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">The best Portuguese restaurant in Rio de Janeiro.<\/h2>\n<p>In a shy neighborhood of Niter\u00f3i, called Ponta D'Areia, very close to Rio de Janeiro, just off the Rio Niter\u00f3i bridge is the most renowned Portuguese restaurant in the entire state, Gruta de Santo Ant\u00f4nio.<br \/>\nHolder of several awards, it was voted the best Portuguese restaurant in Rio de Janeiro and four times the best seafood option in Niter\u00f3i, under the command of renowned Chef Alexandre Henriques, who received the award for best Chef in Rio de Janeiro from the newspaper O Globo. And the awards don't stop there, it's a long list!<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/crispelomundo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/gruta-de-santo-antonio-10.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3041\" src=\"http:\/\/crispelomundo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/gruta-de-santo-antonio-10-1024x650.jpg\" alt=\"saint antonio cave (10)\" width=\"640\" height=\"406\" title=\"- Cris Around the World\"><\/a><br \/>\nThe restaurant reminds us of a Portuguese family home, with dishes and family photos decorating the walls, especially of Dona Henriqueta, a nice lady who also runs the business together with her son. I loved the cozy atmosphere!<br \/>\nAt his invitation, we were welcomed by the Chef to learn about the wonders that are worthy of so many awards in a guided tasting. We were given all the information we could and even discovered a little secret that Alexandre himself told us: the restaurant is about 10 minutes away from the fish market in Niter\u00f3i, so its ingredients are always fresh and delicious! Some other ingredients that deserve more attention are imported and very well prepared, under the strict supervision of Alexandre, who prepares his dishes with the utmost care, and I could see in his eyes the love he has for his profession.<br \/>\nWe tried the tasting menu, which is also available on the menu, and it all started with a delicious cod-filled pastel de nata, certainly the crispiest pastry I've ever tasted in my life, with a very generous filling that makes you daydream just by putting a piece in your mouth! Yes, I'm salivating just remembering it!<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/crispelomundo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/gruta-de-santo-antonio-2.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3042\" src=\"http:\/\/crispelomundo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/gruta-de-santo-antonio-2-1024x678.jpg\" alt=\"saint antonio cave (2)\" width=\"640\" height=\"423\" title=\"- Cris Around the World\"><\/a><br \/>\nWe then moved on to the Shrimp a Bulh\u00e3o de Pato, with a perfect sauce that deserves to be the seasoning on the house bread until the plate is clean.<br \/>\nNext comes a pan of langoustines, which I also suggest complementing with the bread. All the spices and sauces are very unique to the place, making a perfect harmony with the dish.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/crispelomundo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/gruta-de-santo-antonio-3.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3044\" src=\"http:\/\/crispelomundo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/gruta-de-santo-antonio-3-1024x629.jpg\" alt=\"saint antonio cave (3)\" width=\"640\" height=\"393\" title=\"- Cris Around the World\"><\/a><br \/>\nAfter these tasty starters came the main course, the Chef's Codfish, which is the most tender and tasty I've ever tasted, and I'm the granddaughter of a Portuguese woman who cooks very well HUMMM! Accompanied by fried potatoes and caramelized onions, it was really delicious!<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/crispelomundo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/gruta-de-santo-antonio-6.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3043\" src=\"http:\/\/crispelomundo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/gruta-de-santo-antonio-6-1024x678.jpg\" alt=\"saint antonio cave (6)\" width=\"640\" height=\"423\" title=\"- Cris Around the World\"><\/a><br \/>\nAnd to finish off the menu, three typical sweets that have earned the name of pajaminha de doces portugueses, with a pastel de nata (or also known as de Bel\u00e9m, but it's worth noting that the real pastel de Bel\u00e9m only goes by that name in Bel\u00e9m, Heim? Don't get confused lol), orange rocambole with almonds and toucinho do c\u00e9u, which is one of my favorite desserts!<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/crispelomundo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/gruta-de-santo-antonio-9.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3040\" src=\"http:\/\/crispelomundo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/gruta-de-santo-antonio-9-1024x500.jpg\" alt=\"saint antonio cave (9)\" width=\"640\" height=\"312\" title=\"- Cris Around the World\"><\/a><br \/>\nI really liked the Tasting Menu option because it offers a wide variety of the house's delicacies, served for R$ 98.00 from Monday to Friday.
