The youngest of France's largest airlines
Joon is the newest company in the Air France group, it was launched in 2017 and we had the opportunity to fly with Joon and see everything that's new with this company.
The cool thing is that it is scheduled to fly from France to Brazil from May this year.
Its HUB will be Fortaleza, a great way to bring the Northeast closer to Europe.
I'm dying to see this flight, will my next visit to Brazil start in the Northeast? There will even be virtual reality goggles, how cool is that!
The prices of Air France's youngest airline are very attractive and promise to continue in this vein for flights to Brazil.
That weighs a lot when choosing a company, doesn't it? We found Porto-Paris for around 49 euros each way and I've heard that the price starts at 35 euros, wow! But note that Joon is not a low-cost airline, it carries the excellence of Air France.
Public in focus.
Joon was born out of a need Air France found to better serve Generation Y!
They studied the public between 18 and 35 and came up with the new company.
It fit me like a glove, I'm only 18, lol kidding! I've had it done, but it really suited me.
Air France has created a product focused on people who want to work flexible hours, enjoy technology and are always connected to social networks.
Having an app where I can use my own electronic device is great, as well as having USB charging ports in every seat!
I loved being greeted with hot, organic drinks and having healthy options on the flight for food.
But Cris, why did they launch a company focused on this audience? According to Air France's own research, 18-35 year olds account for 38% of the French market and travel at least 3 times a year.
It's about time they thought of something for this audience, isn't it?
Check In
Check-in opens on average two hours before the flight.
As soon as we arrived at Porto airport, we found it a little difficult to find the company's check-in positions. Air France doesn't have its own staff at Porto airport and relies on an outsourced company, but as soon as they start operations you can identify the company's name and flight number on the airport information screens.
Joon is operated by Air France, so always look for the Air France symbol to find your counter, even if you're flying Joon.
Check-in in France is quite different: it's also done in the area reserved for Air France using the "Do It Yourself" system, which is super practical and fast. The future has arrived, all you have to do is enter your booking number into the system, scan your passports or travel documents, print out your flight tickets and luggage tags. Then all you have to do is put the tags on the bags and go to the "drop bag" area, place them on the scales, follow the step-by-step instructions and check them in. The system seems complex, but I didn't really see any queues and it really speeds up the whole process. The company's employees are on hand to help with whatever is needed, but I don't remember seeing any conventional service.
Onboard service
Joon offers water, juice, coffee and tea on its flights.
I thought it was great that they offer organic things and the coffee tastes delicious!
The snacks are also part of the organic line, but are sold separately, and I loved the extra things like the Playmobil doll
We haven't tried these options, but maybe we will the next time we fly Joon
Aircraft
The Airbus family planes offer comfort compatible with the regional market and, unlike low-cost planes, the seats recline, are new and well padded. I found them super comfortable and with a good pitch.
The headrest is also great, with a folding headrest so you don't fall from side to side.
All armrests have a USB port so we can charge our electronic devices
entertainment.
Entertainment
There are no screens attached, but there is an app that uses the Wifi on board to access all the in-flight entertainment content, YouJoon.
They offer games, series, movies and lots of cool things to entertain you. On the way back, Emmanuel spent the whole time watching cartoons.
You need headphones to watch movies, cartoons and so on, but if you don't have them, just ask the steward.
Don't worry about the battery in your electronic devices, there are UBS ports in every seat to charge them.
Final thoughts on flying Joon - Air France.
It's very funny that here in Europe, even if you change countries, flights are considered regional.
We didn't go through customs, let alone get a stamp in our passports.
To give you an idea, the journey time from Porto to Paris is the same as from RIO to POA, just two hours between the two.
I really enjoyed the experience of flying with Joon, and I also noticed that it's not a low-cost airline, despite its competitive prices, but a company adapted to modern times.
Being able to have an organic coffee during my flight was a delight and having the app to distract the little one with news was also great!
The jovial and informal uniforms of the crew made us feel at home and the colors of the seats are beautiful and give the idea of a cozy atmosphere.
I loved the new aircraft, but the flight was so short that I confess I didn't have time to visit the toilets lol.
Now my goal is to fly Joon to Brazil! Virtual reality goggles are planned for long flights like this, imagine if the little one doesn't love it!
