It's harder than you might think to say goodbye to Rio de Janeiro.
I never thought I'd say goodbye to Rio de Janeiro, but the time has come, and sometimes you have to spread your wings to fly higher.
Ever since I was a little girl, I dreamed of seeing the world. I was born a traveler or became one, But I'm certainly purely a traveler today.
I've even read some things about a traveler's gene, so it must really be my parents' fault, lol.
In addition to this gene, they were the ones who taught me how to travel, and this showed itself several times when they put everything in the car and drove off.
Or better still, let's go and have lunch in Penedo? It's only 178 km away, it's right next door lol.
I ended up growing up and realizing that places aren't that far apart.
Love and travel
And with this idea I ended up finding the perfect match.
On my first date with Igor, we did something ordinary, we went to the movies like two lovers, but he arrived on a motorcycle, a motorcycle at that? I said I would NEVER get on a motorcycle, until that day...
The next day I was on his back at over 200km per hour going to lunch in Nova Friburgo. This was our first trip and it was just like I used to do with my parents, we went to lunch next door lol, only 140km away. That was it, he won me over and I didn't even know it myself. Within a week we were dating and the trips were getting further and further away.
At the time, he worked for TAM and when he took time off...
Hey! Weekend off, are we going to Miami?
The ticket was almost free and we enjoyed many weekends around the world.
Sometimes we'd go in the early hours of Friday to Saturday and come back in the early hours of Sunday to Monday straight to work.
This really helped us not to find anywhere so far away hehehe.
We won the world and this became more and more present in our lives.
A gift from God.
We lived intensely until our little Emmanuel came along, but obviously he wouldn't be a reason to stop. After all, pregnant women travel tooright?
We're still out there, traveling a lot and having a great time!
We traveled more around Brazil until he was 2 years old, and we traveled to 10 states with our little one during that time. But we also went to Asia and faced more than 30 hours between flights and connections, taking our little one with us. It was a very enjoyable trip that allowed us to see that our little one is also a traveler, even if he is only 2 years old.
Why goodbye to Rio de Janeiro?
Many things contributed to our decision to say goodbye to Rio de Janeiro.
Quality of life, education, violence and dreams, all mixed up in large chunks.
We knew we could have a good chance in Europe, but the time to take a chance was now.
We filled our chests with determination and courage and went on.
We embarked on the day of Emmanuel's third birthday, so the date would remain in our memories forever.
Soon he'll be of regular school age and then... Taking risks would be much more complicated and so would traveling constantly.
It's not all flowers.
Of course, there aren't only flowers along the way and it's not just school age that worries us. Leaving your family and your life is not easy!
Over the last month our hearts have been breaking and we've almost given up. Every glance, every lunch, every goodbye became heavy as time went by and the closer the date got, the worse it got.
Crying is inevitable, homesickness starts much sooner than you think and only those who are really focused say goodbye to Rio de Janeiro. Of course, today it's easier to get around this, with lots of video calls and telephone conversations, but in the end they're not enough either.
Longing is the worst villain in the process, but knowing that maybe it's not goodbye but just goodbye makes everything easier.
But seeing your little house falling apart is heart-wrenching!
We want to come back, maybe in a year or less, maybe more. But we don't want it to be more than two years.
In our new life, everything has become an unknown and I particularly like that, I hate routine and I love surprises, which is great! In other words, if you're methodical, be very careful, there will be a thousand unforeseen events in the process.
Nursery school and lots of love.
When we decided to say goodbye to Rio de Janeiro, we found a nursery school and fell in love. Ativa Idade became much more than just a nursery school. There were still five months to go until our departure date and we decided that he would study during that time and it would be at Ativa Idade.
As well as having a sensational philosophy, everyone who works there is wonderful.
We managed to find a place where our little one felt at home, which ended up making the process even more difficult, because it was hard to say goodbye.
He was doing so well at nursery school, studying well, learning English, meeting real pets and with friends he loves.
Saying goodbye wasn't easy either, but we made a good network of friends! That we'll carry with us for life.
The active age has become part of the family and, if we go back to Brazil, that's where our little one will study again and see his friends if we return to Brazil.
Once upon a time, one country per month.
As soon as we got back from Thailand, all I could think about was that I wanted to travel forever.
I think it stuck in my mind so much that, along with my farewell to Rio de Janeiro, the project "Once upon a time, a country a month" was born.
We want to take advantage of the little one's young age to travel as much as possible.
Doing at least one country a month and lots of family stories to tell.
Showing the best of the world and that it is possible to travel with a small child and have a lot of fun!
Let's say hello to the old continent by showing that it's all about the little ones. Europe is incredibly well prepared to entertain the whole family.
There's a lot of cool stuff to come, but we've only got the first three months confirmed.
Portugal, France and Holland, then we'll see how it goes and I hope you'll follow along with us.
New life and lots of new things.
We're very attached to our family, the mixed feelings are absurd.
Everything good comes with a counterbalancing bad side.
We gave up everything in the name of a hope for better days and an unavoidable dream.
We said goodbye to Rio de Janeiro, the city we love so much and where everything we love most in life is located.
You have to have courage, strength and you can't think too much, you have to take the risk and go.
We're excited about our dream, which is gradually becoming a reality.
Showing our little one the world, getting to know one country a month and lots of stories to tell.
What will happen? I don't know, we'll just have to live and see!
But one thing's for sure: we're a family with a lot of love to make it work.
We'll tell you all about the process and the news.
And soon the adventure really begins
