Hidden beauties
Winter is here and with it lots of fun. It's time to play in the snow! Of course, Serra da Estrela couldn't be left out with its enchanting landscape. Its sunsets are incredible. A huge ball of fire landing on the white snow makes for an exciting spectacle.
Children play, go down and up a thousand times without getting tired. Sleds, skis, snowshoes and cable cars are all available for those who want a break from the ups and downs.
But is it really only the snow and the Serra da Estrela Tower that deserve to be highlighted this winter?
I'll tell you that there are some jaw-dropping surprises along the way.
There are many surprises hidden among the paths that lead to the Torre da Serra da Estrela.
Covão do Ametade
The first one I came across and never wanted to leave was the incredible landscape of Covão do Ametade in Manteigas. Its waters come from the River Zêreze, crossing the entire Covão and flowing through the Glacier Valley.
Everything looks like an enchanted forest, designed to be part of the most beautiful book.
The place is so beautiful that it deserves at least a picnic. But beware that you may not want to leave.
But there's no problem. If that happens, camping is allowed there.
Rossim Valley
Another good place to camp is Vale do Rossim. One of the most famous river beaches in Serra da Estrela. Of course, at this height the beach is only there to be seen, and to provide us with one of the most beautiful sunsets you'll ever see!
Covão dos Conchos
Now if you want a somewhat mysterious surprise, you have to walk beyond Lagoa Comprida to Covão dos Conchos.
The site became famous for its waterfall into the earth. Wow! A landscape like no other, but there's no real mystery about it.
The drain was built by man in 1955. The tunnel is responsible for sucking the water from Lagoa dos Conchos and taking it to Lagoa Comprida.
E despite being the work of man, the landscape is a spectacle and more like a magical tunnel.
Loriga
Speaking of magical places, I couldn't fail to mention the Praia Fluvial do Loriga, with its waterfall coming down from the glacier. Its clear waters give us peace and invigorate our soul.
It's a great place for a snack, as there are plenty of tables, clean toilets and a sink for a good meal.
Saint in the Stone
All the way to the Tower, we are in for a lot of surprises. The landscapes take your breath away and protect you from the curves that appear in the snow.
But there's a surprise that many don't expect. A Saint over 7m tall, carved out of stone
Tower of Serra da Estrela
Everything is so beautiful on the way up to the Tower that playing in the snow becomes just another option.
Use and abuse surprises on the way to the game, you won't regret it.
