Guaranteed fun for all ages.
Universal Singapore is located at Resort World Sentosa (RSW) on Sentosa Island. I was very impressed, I had never seen a park in such a complex.
Universal Singapore is a franchise of the Universal Studios Park in the United States and for people who had no plans to go to the United States, it was a great opportunity to show the park to the little one.
Of course, it's not as big as the parks in the United States, but it still has LOTS of fun for all ages and follows the same pattern as in the US.
Among the many attractions, the park is divided into 7 areas: Hollywood, New York, Sci-Fi City, Ancient Egypt, Lost World (Jurassic Park), Far Far Way (Shrek) and Madagascar.
Universal Singapore opened in March 2010 and is one of Singapore's top tourist attractions.
Who doesn't want to go on roller coasters, or what child doesn't want to see their favorite character?
Young children at Universal Singapore
But we still had one doubt: would our 2-year-old really enjoy the park? Isn't he too small? How would a small child react to the attractions? Would there be toys for him?
Well, Igor and I have been to both Universal parks in Florida and we were very unsure if it was really worth taking the little one to Universal Singapore.
As we had gone without a small child, we only paid attention to the adult rides and our attention at the time was zero. We couldn't remember if there were many options for this public and we didn't think so.
But quite the opposite! I found a LOT to do with Emmanuel, and I even found Universal Singapore to be much more geared towards them. There are several shows, lots of attractions that touch the imagination of little ones and delicious rides.
Okay, Cris, but isn't language a barrier? Not at all, it's true that the language spoken is English, but for this age it's not a barrier. He was able to enjoy all the shows very happily, his eyes shining in an unforgettable way every time he saw a character.
The magic was so great that I couldn't help myself and brought Shrek in my suitcase, and they soon became best friends! To this day they eat together, watch TV and play a lot. I'm sure that experience will stay in his memory forever. The joy of having seen Shrek, Puss in Boots, Pinocchio and Donkey for real is priceless.
But it wasn't just Shrek that stayed in his heart, Madagascar, dinosaurs, Sesame Street characters and the Minions were also part of all this joy.
Park areas
Hollywood
It's in this area that we enter the magical land of Universal Studios Singapore! Right at the end of the main avenue, we found a stage where some shows took place.
When we went to Universal Singapore, they were releasing the movie Despicable Me 3 and the whole park was decorated with Minions.
There were special shows and products from these cuties! So stay tuned for the movie of the time so you can enjoy it too.
This is where most of the restaurants, bars and shops are! I got lost in the stores, I wanted to take everything!
Dreamworks characters often appear in this part of the park.
Baby stroller rental
And for moms and dads, there's also a handy option for those with small children. Although the park isn't that big, having a stroller sometimes helps a lot! Right at the entrance to Hollywood, on the right-hand side, you'll find a stroller rental store.
We took ours because it's very practical and it turns into a backpack, lol. It's our travel companion, but for those who don't have such compact strollers, renting is a great option.
New York
This area is very similar to the one in the United States, but we only enjoyed one attraction.
Light, camera and action! A short presentation led by Steven Spielberg, full of special effects! A lot of fire and heat are part of this attraction and our little one watched it all holding onto us very quietly, lol.
It's nice to feel like you're on a movie set.
It was also in this area of the park that Emmanuel had his photo taken with the Sesame Street characters.
In this area there are also some shows, we saw The Rockafellas, very lively, full of dancing and interaction with the public.
Sci-Fi City
Here's the highest dueling roller coaster in the world! The Human vs Cylon.
Needless to say, Igor loved it, right? He likes adrenaline too much.
There are two options for excitement:
Human, the quieter one who goes normally sitting down, in the normal direction, and the Cylon who goes upside down and even runs inverted!
As I said, Igor loves adrenaline! I don't need to tell you which one was his favorite, right? As for me, I really enjoyed Human! I enjoyed a beautiful sunset, seeing the whole park from up there, a beautiful pink evening color.
This is also where you'll find the Transformers to take pictures of.
Ancient Egypt
There are rides for both kids and parents! This area is home to the craziest roller coaster I've ever been on, it's completely indoor, dark with light effects and super fast!
When I joined the queue, I didn't think anything of the attraction, but WOW! One of the best I've ever been on, it was an adrenaline rush! Every flash a scare with terrifying mummies.
Not knowing when the next descent or loop would be was also a huge thrill.
In this area, the little ones haven't been forgotten: right in front of the roller coaster there's a toy that turns the whole family into ancient explorers.
We went through Ancient Egypt, full of beetles and lots of fun for the little ones! This was the toy we queued for the most and I didn't think it was that great.
Jurassic Park
This is the Lost World area! Emmanuel made himself at home in the fountain, it was hard to get him out, lol luckily I had taken extra clothes. Even when it's hot, nobody wants to get soaked, do they?
While one of us flew on the Dino-Soarin with Emmanuel, the other enjoyed the Jurassic Rapids Adventure, a huge rapids, which ends with the dinosaur almost swallowing us up and a terrifying descent! Be prepared to get wet.
In this area there are also water shows inspired by the movie Water World, but we didn't have time to watch them.
Dinosaurs also appear here for us to take pictures of.
Far Far Way ( Shrek )
I think it was the part where Emmanuel had the most fun! Lots of attractions and cool shows, he was able to go to the 4D movie theater where he felt like he was saving Fiona with Shrek!
We saw a Donkey Comedy Show, where we laughed a lot and Emmanuel also felt he was face to face with the character, even though it was all on video. Even so, the character interacts with the audience in real time mediated by an animator, and the children really enjoyed it!
What he couldn't keep his eyes off was the show taking place at certain times with the Puss in Boots characters! The Dance for the Magic Beans, he loved it, he sat there looking at every detail, even though it was in English he enjoyed every word.
After the show, we were also able to take photos with the characters.
But the attractions for the little ones aren't over yet. When we entered the Shrek souvenir store, we found yet another toy, the Magic Potion Spin.
It was like a mini Ferris wheel of cages, we swung and climbed with all the magic of the kingdom so far away. This attraction takes a long time and I felt trapped.
Ahhh in front of Shrek's Castle, a different character appears every hour! We were lucky to bump into Pinocchio.
Madagascar
This was another area that Emmanuel went crazy for, the Madagascar animals themselves were there! We started by taking our family photo so we could print it out and keep it forever on paper.
The little one's joy is clear in the smile of this portrait, how magical! If I'd known he'd enjoy it so much, I wouldn't have thought twice about bringing him along! My goodness, how can a child, practically a two-year-old baby, enjoy it so much?
I think his imagination is bubbling over so much at this age that he's really enjoyed it, which is wonderful. After the Shrek area, this was the one he enjoyed the most, followed by Jurrasic Park.
We then went to the first toy, Create Adventure, which Emmanuel really enjoyed. We repeated it a few times, he went crazy! It's a boat ride in an enclosed space with the Madagascar characters.
Another ride he loved was King Julien's Beach Party- to-around, nothing less than a beautiful carousel! We went on this one late at night, almost when the park closed. So we enjoyed every ride until they kicked us off, I think Emmanuel managed to go on all the characters lol.
Extra tips
Single Rider!
A good tip if you're going with young children and don't want to miss out on anything is to alternate between the single riders! We did this and went on all the roller coasters like this, usually you get on almost straight away and we didn't waste any time.
While one of them plays with the little one, the other goes wild on the extreme rides!
But remember that single rider is a special queue for people who are alone or who don't want to go in the same carriage. Not all attractions offer this service.
Extra MasterCard discounts
I thought it was great that Mastercard customers get a lot of cool discounts! I deeply regret not having taken the hotel plus park package.
But we still managed to get a good deal, which was the cheapest park ticket plus a printed family photo with the Madagascar characters.
We bought it at the Universal Singapore ticket office.
Fresh clothes!
Singapore plays at being hot, and I experienced some of the hottest weather of my life! So make sure you wear cool clothes and, if possible, take a few clothes with you.
Some of the toys get wet and there's a really nice fountain to cool off the heat, so enjoy playing and become a child again. Of course, only if you have extra clothes so you don't get soaked.
Regular tickets cost 38 Singapore dollars and children under 3 don't pay.
