Trails in Magé - Rio de Janeiro .

And who says you have to have luxury to have lots of fun?

Well, this weekend I went camping and explored some trails in Magé, which aren't very well known.
Magé-Rj is a municipality in the Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro-Brazil, founded on June 9, 1565! Aeee congratulations on 448 years and natural beauty!

It all started with an idea and little by little it became something real, a newly purchased farmhouse, without much structure, with an incredible desire to get to know a trail that wasn't much talked about, and at the same time to get friends together.
Friends who called friends and I ended up getting in on the act! I didn't know the owner of the house, but she turned out to be a good friend after the adventure.
I was very careful when I bought the idea, saying that we wouldn't have a structure and that we should bring tents and camping equipment, and that the house would just be a meeting point, since the idea was to arrive the day before in the afternoon, sleep and take the opportunity to leave very early for the Pedra Mãe trail.
Okay, everything was settled, and it was time to pack everything to set off, so I had a tent, sleeping bag, shorts, bikini and a cheerio in my bag!
So how do I get to Magé? I searched Google Maps and found a train option to get from Rio de Janeiro city center to Magé, I took the metro, which would drop me off at the train station and when I went to confirm the information I found out that it would take a VERY long time and it wasn't worth it, the girl at the station said that I would need to take two trains, and the second one I would have to wait almost two hours to get off, that it was better to take the Central x Magé bus, at the bus terminal nearby, and that's what I did! The cost of the bus was R$ 8.50 and it was very comfortable, arriving in Magé relatively quickly, an hour and a bit.
Happy and content, once in Magé, I stopped at a bakery for a snack and ran to the market to meet the rest of the people who were going to camp with me! We did some basic shopping and headed for the campsite and when we arrived, the first good news came! We are completely without LIGHT! And the rain, which hadn't been forecast, came without any ceremony and made a point of showing that it was WELL present.

Discouraged? Of course not, candles did their job and so did lanterns =) with everyone well united the work flowed we managed to make a very improvised barbecue, with gorgonzola sauce and very good wine! Fed, happy, with music and rain to keep the mood calm, the weather improved and the lights came back on - we were a bit sad about it, we'd got used to the pitch black.

The next day we were scheduled to wake up at 8 a.m., so we went to bed! With a Rooster who decided to disturb us from 2 a.m. until we woke up! In a few hours our alarm clock came on: 7 a.m.! Rafael shook the tent, saying that we weren't in a spa and we should get up and shake things up! I jumped up and the second best news came along, UHULLL we're out of water! I couldn't believe it! I wanted so much to brush my teeth, rinse my face, take a shower! The best I could do was brush my teeth, the rest I left for the waterfalls on the trail! We had breakfast, improvised a fire with a cut-up tin can and alcohol that was just like the nozzle on a real stove (built by my dear brother), so we could heat the water to make the coffee (something I can't live without), invented a creative way to strain the coffee and everything worked out in the end! Everyone was ready and we didn't leave until 9pm, it was already late! We rushed to make the most of every minute and luckily the weather had opened up.

In short, trails for all tastes!

We didn't know much about the trail, only that there would be many waterfalls, beautiful landscapes to see, and of course there was no lack of desire to get to know Magé's trails.
We followed the indicated path, passing a CEDAE gate and some shacks along the way, until we came to a fork in the road, and now where to go? A sign indicated the Véu da Noiva waterfall to the left and on the right what was there?

As we weren't too sure, we decided to take the path that had at least some indications! Véu da Noiva waterfall here we come! We followed a quiet trail for a few minutes, a group was coming the other way and confirmed that we were close to Véu da Noiva. Soon we heard the sound of a stream and a beautiful landscape came into view, showing us little by little what was to unfold! We were enchanted by the place and a shock came within moments! A gigantic waterfall with majestic nature all around! It's 110 meters of water making for a breathtaking landscape, and there we recharged all our energies, forgetting about the Pedra Mãe trail for a while, even considering just staying there! Half the group took advantage of the waterfall to take a dip, and of course I was in the middle of it. A little further down there was a small pool that was great for diving and the water wasn't even very cold, perfect!

But curious as we are, 30 minutes on the trail wasn't going to satisfy us, so we tried to continue on to the top of the Veil of the Bride, but we were practically faced with a climbing wall, so we kept going until it got too slippery and wet and got steeper and steeper, so we decided to go back and find out what was on the other side of the fork.

We followed the sound of the stream, discovered several beautiful peaks along the trail, rustic bridges, slightly asphalted bits, and every now and then a waterfall appeared with a very inviting pool! Gradually we discovered that the trail could be done by anyone! From people who aren't into hiking to the more adventurous! There was something for everyone, but what changed was where everyone ended up.

We stopped at all the places with water that we could get into and take a dip, we had already agreed that we wouldn't go to the top of Pedra Mãe this time, so the best thing was to take advantage of every little corner we saw along the way, and come back once we had the trail better known and fixed points for stops already pre-defined and, of course, preferably without the trail wet from all the rain the day before! We continued on until we found a car in the middle of the trail, in the undergrowth, and wondered how it had stopped there! And further on we discovered more houses, the whole trail was like this, with little houses appearing in the middle of nowhere, and there we stopped following, to continue next time.

And so it went, beautiful places were discovered and I was delighted and surprised to find so many cool things in a place I couldn't have imagined.

We returned home, stopped at a PF, with food very well served for R$8.00, packed up and headed back to Rio, a trip of less than 24 hours that was very worthwhile, with a plan to return soon to finally hike to the top of Pedra Mãe, a happy surprise.
