Today we have a more than illustrious guest for the Blog.
Kind, funny and very talented, there's no doubt we'll be moving our chairs and traveling with him!
Vinny Bonotto, owner of the most famous hits, shows us that he also knows how to travel and gives us some great tips about Holland!
The city of bikes
If you, like me, love renting a car and driving around the streets of a city to get to know it better, exploring every alleyway, avenue and road you come across, you should know that there is one city in which cars are viewed with a great deal of antipathy, and there's a reason for that.
It was made to be explored by bike... or by wearing out the soles of your shoes! I'm talking about the orange jewel of Europe, beautiful Amsterdam.
I arrived by car, unloaded my suitcases in the hotel lobby and went off to spend the last few hours of that busy day. Here's an explanation for the rush: my son broke his left foot as soon as we arrived at the city's skate park, so between the hospital, pharmacy, buying crutches etc... it took me all afternoon, after all being a father is suffering in paradise! lol.
It's extremely difficult to park in Amsterdam, not only is it expensive, but parking spaces are limited on the streets, which led me to look for a parking lot and pay what it's not worth, but who wouldn't leave their car at the rental company when they arrived in the city, right?
After getting rid of the van, I went for a walk around the streets near the hotel, inside the "ring", or rather, near the hustle and bustle. The tourist town, so to speak, is a half circle full of charming, flowery streets, beautiful canals and bridges, and full of friendly, smiling people. It's like a party. It's charming to see people coming and going on their scooters and bikes, without the rush we usually see in big cities around the world. Beautiful, crowded bars, people laughing out loud on the sidewalks and a night that seemed like an eternal sunset, because the sky was still clear at 9:45 p.m. After all... summer in that part of the globe is like that, short nights and long days.
And the best friend of summer, of course, is a tulip of Dutch beer, not as cold as ours, but creamy and thick, like a milk shake from the gods! I wonder if that's why they don't use cars!
The typical food isn't a draw, but a strangely named pancake sold in every bakery is worth every bite! Filled with delicious caramel, it's more like a crispy waffle.
I didn't spend too much time in the crazy museums, like the Marijuana Museum or the Prostitution Museum, which, by the way, are world-famous brands in that city. I went straight to the Red Light District to see the Dutch women with their chests open in the shop windows scattered around the streets of that block, and I also went into one of the coffee shops! Don't be fooled, it's not a conventional coffee shop where you can order a cappuccino and some biscuits, it's marijuana from all over the world! People have fun smoking and chatting happily, in a party atmosphere with their space cakes!!! Chocolate and marijuana cake! It's nothing like Grandma's! Give me a wave! Which is very revealing when it comes to our preconceptions on the subject.
I couldn't miss the Van Gogh Museum, after all, I'm a fan of the guy and if you like history and painting, it's worth every centimeter of the original canvas on display right in front of you. I yellowed at the entrance to the Anne Frank House, because the queue was huge and the afternoon was delicious! I sat by the canal and had another local beer!
It's really hard to say goodbye to Amsterdam! It feels like "something is happening in my heart"... And I'm sure that one day we'll see each other again and have a good laugh in the cold wind that embraces us in the streets of the beautiful orange city!
